The title of this piece comes from a line in Isaiah: "In returning and rest you shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength."
The piece carries for me the idea of being safely at home, and gaining strength through resting and trusting rather than worrying and overworking. Behind the stained glass is a fabric collage I designed for a tranquil, layered look. I love that in this piece about finding strength in rest, you can see the texture of fabric through the glass, a material we recognize as being comforting and warm.
I designed and built the stained glass element close to a year ago, and found the inspiration for the fabric collage just a few months ago. As the finished version of this piece came together, it acted as a steady reminder to me about choosing resting and trusting over more frantic alternatives.
